Favourites from the Mandelring Quartet’s inexhaustible repertoire:
Mozart’s very first string quartet meets classics of Tango Argentino; Haydn’s radiant “Bird” string quartet appears alongside Stevie Wonder’s top hit Sir Duke, Tchaikovsky’s Andante cantabile and the famous St. Louis Blues. This iridescent kaleidoscope presents the Mandelring Quartet at their most personal.

The  Mandelring Quartet’s concert with Dmitri Shostakovich’s string quartets Nos. 1, 8 and 15 at the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele on June 26, 2020 will be livestreamed and broadcast in the ARD radio festival.
The livestream can be found on the website of the Festspiele www.schlossfestspiele.de from Friday, June 26, 20:00, as well as on the YouTube channel and the Facebook page of the Festspiele.

The concert will be broadcast in the ARD radio festival on Friday, August 07, 2020, 20:04, in the second part of the concert evening at about 21:15

After weeks of nothing but cancelled concerts and festivals, there is finally some positive news. The Schlossfestspiele Ludwigsburg now plan to replace the Mandelring Quartet’s complete Shostakovich cycle of fifteen quartets with a more restricted project: a concert of Shostakovich’s string quartets nos 1, 8 and 15 is scheduled for performance by the Mandelring Quartet on 26 June 2020, hopefully both in the Ordenssaal of Ludwigsburg castle with a live audience and also available for streaming. The release of the first of two CDs of works from the French repertoire has been postponed from July to 6 November 2020 due to the coronavirus. The works are:
Maurice Ravel, string quartet in F major
Fernand de La Tombelle, string quartet in E major op. 36
The works of the second CD will feature the string quartet by Claude Debussy and the two string quartets by Jean Rivier.

A “marathon” tour with five concerts in as many days took the Mandelring Quartet to Barcelona, Valencia, Salamanca, Madrid and Bilbao. A special highlight was the recital in Madrid’s Royal Palace, in which the Quartet performed on four Stradivari instruments from the royal collection.

October saw the recording of Part 2 of the Mandelring Quartet’s CD project, this time consisting of string quartets by the French composers Claude Debussy and Jean Rivier. The recording took place in the chamber music room of Deutschland Funk’s Cologne studio. This project is scheduled to reach completion in January 2020.
